External HDD and networking
I know about the topic below, but this is a slightly different query. I was originally thinking of getting this - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...rce=1&doy=15m7 until I saw this in the thread below - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136025
So I'm pretty sure I will get that one, though I will have to pay excess shipping costs. My question is, how do I go about networking all my computer so they are able to access the files on it? A couple of PCs will be on wireless, and some will have ethernet leads, but they all need access to the files.
Please advise
PS: Does Newegg ship to the UK? I can't seem to find out without registering.

It's just like sharing any other drive. If you are on windows, right click, and share it.
I dunno if they ship to the UK.
edit
google tells me they don't.

So plugged into one computer on the network. That's cool, gotcha.
Thanks.

I think I can plug a usb one into my router, weird though. I was searching for the samething yesterday so here is my findings:
http://westerndigital.com/en/product...sp?DriveID=318
That you can use remote software. You could use remote software with any other hard drive though.

Have you thought about get getting a airport station? They have a usb slot so you can plug a USB HD in and share it accross the network.

Just make sure to set up your home networking to allow NWLink NetBIOS and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol (if they aren't already installed)

Why are you trying to make things more complicated?
Plug it in, make sure it is in my computer; if it is, right click and share.

Hmm it's even easier on Mac Os X i believe, but that seems easy for Windows. The only downside is that you have to keep that computer on
