  Old  Why Vanilla Forums?

Sorry about another similar type of question but here it goes. So I've used phpBB, vBulletin and SimpleMachinesForum. Lately a few friends told me about Vanilla Forums. Is it any different than those platforms I mentioned? Is Vanilla simpler, better, worse?

It's funny because I just asked about Simple Press and got information about the Vanilla forum platform. At first glance, it looks better than Simple Press does, but I think it's still too far behind vBulletin.

I honestly never really liked it. I like the traditional forum layout where the home page is the categories..

I've never even heard of Vanilla Forums. If you're going to create a forum, to me you might as well go with the best platform which at this time is vBulletin, in my opinion. It's much more versatile and customizable than others.

I personally cant stand Vanilla, I think it has the single worst interface out of any major script. I dont recall the site, but I do remember one occasion where I didnt join a forum because it was Vanilla.

On another note, I like ipb way better then vbulletin. The admin cp is so much cleaner. Haven't seen vb 4.0 though, not sure if they revamped it.

This is also why I can't stand Vanilla. I think it was a great attempt to try to introduce change and a creative look for forums but we are already so accustomed to a standard that the change is a negative aspect.

I feel it's more crowded and disorganized with Vanilla than say IPB, vB or MyBB.

If I had to go opensource, I'd only ever go with MyBB. My paid solution is and has always been IPB!

Never used mybb before. Phpbb2 used to be the shit back in the day. Remember installing all those crazy mods on them as a kid? There was so many resources for it back then.

I had forgotten about PHPbb2 and I'm not sure if it's still around. As a poster, I've generally had good experiences with MyBB.

I post on different forums using different platforms but I don't remember how MyBB looks like. I always like vBulletin, but it's not surprising because it's a paid forum software.
