Depending on what you want it can be pricey but there are premade logos that go cheap and you can just change them up to meet your needs.

I charge anywhere from $350-$800 (corporate package). You get what you pay for. I spend a lot more time than 10 minutes on a logo, and that looks like what the people spend that are making them for $10-$20.

If you're wanting to expand your portfolio then look up a charity, church or a non profit site and help them out for free. That's what I did starting out.
Cheap selling your work only devalues the profession. And if your logos are only worth $10-$20 maybe find a different profession.

Exactly, I will go with mstrock. When you create a logo, you are creating a business identity which will be one time. It's a brand identity which people recognize.. and it's not an easy task to create one.

How much will a vector logo (high resolution - can be used for prints) - A business card design (CMYK based) - A letterhead and an Envelope with the brand manual cost (60pages)?

I suggest, you post your requirement out here with your budget mentioned.
Choose a designer looking at his past designs. I'm sure you will find a good logo designer for the cost of around $150 - $400.

Agreed, it's not just a straight forward process.

I've had clients say yes straight away to a logo, and some clients where it takes about 8 or 9 attempts to get it absolutely perfect.

but being realistic, there are $10 logos and even $6!
insanely as it sounds but that is reality. I think it all comes down to what the client needs at the moment. but I doubt that those logos will last them even for a year without them realizing they need a rebrand.
