Die 800X600

Im sick of having to try to adapt designs to fit 800X600 this isnt 4 years ago for gods sake get a better resolution. Its holding everyone back in design.

I don't think it's holding design back. It's easier to design for 800*600 and tends to look much better and it can ofcourse be coded to fill higher resolutions. Whenver i have seen people make a design thats actually bigger than 800*600 it tends to look messy.

Exactly Bazza, I actually think it's hard to make my designs wider than about 750 px!

Maybe because we've become accustomed to it and havent had practice in the other field?

I think your just young and don't remember when 800x600 was considered a good resolution. Believe it or not, at one time the vast majority of people used that res. I remember when my dads business got a 'HUGE' 15" monitor, running 800x600 almost made me cream myself .

But really, there has to be a 'standard' set somehow. Many sites, if they are catering to a technological audience can get away with something bigger, but for most sites 800x600 is still a good rule of thumb.

Many older people use it. It is easy on the eyes and can run on virtually almost any computer these days.

I usually make sure that the main section of the template is 800px wide, and then have the patterns and bg (all the other fancy stuff) on the side, that way atleast 8x6 users can still see the content.

agreed

27% of the worlds internet users still use that res, its mainly gamers..

Something like 20% of users use 800X600, most use 1024X9 and whatever or larger.

But thats 20%, which is a huge amount of people.
