Yeah, I'll try out a few of the suggestions but I am definitely not going with IPB, horrible IMO.

I second that, but I suggest you to wait to the next patch if you host does not have _FILE_ constant enabled or your admin area will be replaced with a nice error.

I absolutely love the simplicity of it, wordpress.com actually uses it, extremely fast, has ajax, and the cleanest code known to forums.

Many will be surprised, but I recommend the new PHPbb 3.0. The code is clean, it looks great, valid html, has all the cool features, and is user friendly.
