Indeed, macromedia actually made freehand to compete with photoshop. But now since Adobe brought Macromedia i think they'll be deceasing fireworks

I always under the impression that freehand was created to take on illustrator and not photoshop, but to tell you the truth I have only used freehand a couple of times. I think that they will be keeping fireworks...I like it better than its sister application imageready.

hmm i would rather use imageready than fireworks since it's bridged with photoshop. Freehand does also have some illustrator features but i never use it, i thinked they stopped making it as it wasn't in my Macromedia Studio 8 package...

They're not discontinuing Fireworks, version 9 is currently in private beta.

I love Fireworks because of it's simplicity. When I installed the Photoshop v.9 CS2 it tooke me like 10 minutes to figure out how to change the color of a rectangle.

Can you really save images to a .psd with Fireworks? Whenever I try to it doesn't save anything at all. I'm starting to think I may have gotten gypped. Also if it is possible does it save as a layered PSD?

I read the article and it had some good points but was heavily biased in favour of Fireworks.

For me it's got to be Photoshop. It is a much more powerful tool (in the right hands) than Fireworks could ever be.
