Some help with Movable type....

I am going to be designing, or redesigning I should say, a blog for a college, and we were discussing how the best way would be to design a template for movable type. I had no idea on how to implement it, but I know I can design the elements for it.

I am looking for any help or direction on how to go about designing and implementing the design into movable type, apart from just changing the header. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated.
