Old  Need Help Fixing Javascript Gallery Problem

At the following link I have a javascript gallery that is malfunctioning. I copied the code straight from alistapart, so I have no idea why it would be. Please help. Thanks.

Where am I looking? I assume the pictures. If so, what isn't it doing? And what's it supposed to do?

The paragraph <p id="desc"></p> needs to have some content in there. Else, when you try to access the text node inside it (which doesn't exist) to change the description, a JavaScript error is produced and the function stops processing resulting in the image being loaded like a normal link click. You'll note that in the ALA article, they have some placeholder text in there.

Well that fixes that, but now theres a new bug. When I click the thumbs, they dissapear as well as change the big pic. Any idea what's with that? The javascript is unchanged.

Checked out the site in both IE7 and Opera and found everything working as it should be.

Bugs galore, eh? And people think cross-compatibility in HTML is difficult.

Does anyone else see the problem? In IE6 the thumbnails dissapear when I click them... this is just strange..

Any fixes?
