what should i charge?
Hey,
I hope posted this in right tread.
Anyways, I have a client who I'm doin this site for. Now when I'm done he wants to know how much I would charge to do Icons and graphics for the site whenever he needs.
I dunno wat to charge so can someone help me out here. His description is as stated. Just graphics and icon designs and text designs, etc for the page as he needs them or see fit for a page.
What would u advise me to charge?

Charge what you think your time is worth, it's no good anybody else setting the standards for you.

I would charge by the amount of time it requires. As Anthony said, how much is your time/skills worth? Also, the complexity of the task must be considered, if it's simple text changes then I would just waive it.

You have to charge this by the hour, there is no other way.
Unless you have a standard rate for icons/buttons etc.

Hourly rates online are really skatty in my opinion. There are no ways to prove how long that the designer is working for at all. This applies to freelancers really, I suppose progress reports every hour would be feasable if you were to do it this way.

yes.. you cant really do a hrly rate over the internet.. i would say dont charge less than $10/icon the graphic price would depend on what he wants. he might be intrested in a $100 for the lot or somthing.. it depends on the size of the job i guess..

ok...cool. I'll think about it. I really wanted to know the method to use to charge also and so far I get by hour, by size of project, by skill...anymore?
I'm gonna think about that depending on those methods though...

What difference is there between hourly rates online and hourly rates offline?
I mean if my mechanic said he took 1 1/2 hours to replace the Hub axle in my car I would believe him, if he said it took 2 1/2 hours I would also believe hime and if he said 3 1/2 hours I would still believe him!
Unless the client actually sits there and watches a webcam (kinky) of you doing the designing he will never know how long it takes. Thats why people give out job estimates and time estimates, they then quote the prices and have to stick by that quoted price. Sometimes you finish the project before time and if it's ridiculously early you can pass some of the savings back on to the client (not all savings)...sometimes, however, you run over time and you will lose money.
