.eps file/print problems
Hello guys,
I made an image in photoshop wich will be used to print on a flag.
I have to save it as an .eps file and then it will be printed by a company with whatever program they use.
The problem is that part of the image seems to be bitmap (which is wrong) and some parts not (which is right).
I hope someone knows what I can do to not make it bitmap?
I know it is a bit vague, but I hope some will recognize the problem.

make it in a vector program. you can't just 'make' bitmap into vector, you have to recreate it. if it's a photograph, there's nothing you can do about it.

Yeah I allready thought I had to recreate it, which isn't such a big problem. And what vector program? Does it work to recreate it in a PSD and then save it as .eps?

illustrator has a fairly nifty 'trace' function for raster images, which can turn it into a vector. fireworks is also a pretty good vector program. i think there are some free ones out there, dunno what they are called though.

illustrator's trace function is pretty bad as far as my experience goes.
you're best saving as an eps directly out of the vector program. it's going to be a raster image in photoshop no matter what you do.

Ditto that! Yikes Illy is horrible at tracing. Streamline was a hundred times better and they nixed it to build the trace function in Illy. Bad, bad move.

Okay, I hope people read carefully. Photoshop is NOT a vector-based program. You CANNOT create vectors with it. The .eps saving option in Photoshop is to allow designers to set graphics as monotone, duotone, tritone, etc. for spot color printing.
Illustrator and Freehand are the best programs on the market for vector graphics. If you want vectors, use one of those. I personally prefer Illy over Freehand, but use whatever you work best with.

Hmm, I don't have any other programs. Is there someone able to turn my image into a vector image? It's a really simple image I can tell you, I hope it's not to much asked.

There's free open source vector software out there called Inkscape, it's pretty basic, but you can still do good vectors in it:
http://www.inkscape.org/
I personally use Illustrator (and yeah, the trace tool is absolute rubbish)

It's not a bad program at all for some certain applications you need in some designs that require some type of unique texture. Thanks for mentioning that Julian!
