I would go with vbulletin. If I had the money right now I would purchase a license.

Coding is easiest for IPB/IF. But vBulletin has more options you can choose. Though its harder to code. People these days charging $200 to code a simple VB skin, kind of rediculous (spelling error). People will code IPB for a lot cheaper though. They both run in the same price range kind of i think.

I'm not sure he's asking how easy/hard it is to code an entire skin as much as he's asking about how hard it is to make small skin modifications here and there...if that's what he's looking for, I would really say that vB and IPB are about equal. IPB might have a slight edge because it has a better admin interface, but other than that, I would consider them equal.

Yeah, just small modifications.
I don't have in mind doing any other customizations to the software. Pretty much run it out of the box and change small things regarding design.

I would personally go with vBulletin over any other forum software.
  • Amazing Customer Support
  • Easy to navigate adminCP
  • Easy to navigate userCP
  • Easy to skin, or have someone custom make a skin
  • Tons of mods and hacks to add-on

There are endless features for vB and IPB, but IMO vB is the best bet for your money!

Surge, I do agree with you that vB is better than IPB, but only by a very slight edge...definitely not for all of those reasons - have you ever used IPB? (From the admin side)
