The style is based on historical Damask fabric patterns. (More info on Wikipedia)

are hundreds (~300) variations which you can use. That's the link I give out whenever anyone asks for this style of tiling image for their designs.

These are generally known as textile patterns, often used in fabrics. Also known as repetative imagery sometimes.
