Do you think that Jelsoft Enterprises will ever release a free version of vBulletin which is an older version like InvisionFree? Just a thought.. lol

Even if they did, it wouldn't be smart to use it. If it's an older version, then theres a reason it's an older version--exploits, bugs, errors, and other reasons. It'd bad to even think about using an old version of a popular script--it's just not safe.

In the past they did have a shareware 'vBulletin Lite' but it was discontinued and I doubt they would start it again.

I downloaded a copy of vB for free and it works. I'm not sure if its a legal copy or not, but it works. vBulletin v3.0.7

I would defiantly delete it. If vBulletin find it they can get your host to close your account immediately without warning.
It is illegal to run vB without a valid licence.

I don't think i'd run an old vB anyway, I have personal experience that forumers do not like "going back" to older and less capable versions, but if I did use it i'd be VERY worried about security.

If you check the config.php file, it should say something like "this software is not free and may not be distributed."
