I've been thinking the same thing throughout this whole time, what is the issue with that? Unless it wasn't agreed upon that you are not doing ANY other work besides what you agreed to do (for an example if you agreed to make a hosting template ONLY and the buyer is asing you do write him a custom TOS) then I don't see the problem.

Are you complaining about IT being a requirement, I got a U in my IT GCSE (only 'cause I did no coursework) and most jobs on a PC require a GCSE in IT but why? Am I going to need to know how to design a crappy slideshow in powerpoint when I could design a secksy one in Flash? And I can type a frickin letter.

Powerpoint was made for actual presentations. While flash could be used also, it is more for web presentation than if you're actually presenting it on a projector. both work though except powerpoint is industry's standard for presentations.

I wasn't complaining. Maybe I structred my question wrong. I infamous for that. But i JUST wanted your opinions and secondly, to know if there's much job out there that would require a designer to type up any crap.

Next thing, u have to look at the question not from a freelance perspective but from a full time job. However, most of you make clear sense when you said that it depends on what was agreed upon when you take the job.

Bottomline: are there design jobs that "requires" you to have extensive knowledge of MS word?

Note: Extensive knowledge basically means knowing more than formatting a 2 page document.

Yes there are design jobs that require you to know MS Word in reasonable depth.

Consider creating identities and having to make your clients invoice/memo/fax/letterheads for their business.

Also consider clients that provide you with ALL the site content in MS Word, you have to be able to extract it.

You are currently entry level and doing the crap jobs should be expected.

Ever done work experience? You do a lot of filing and drink fetching. Not really work experience but you are at the low end of the scale and get crap.

Also my dad who is at a senior level has been forced to learn the office package (spreadsheets, outlook, word) as he was without a PA for a while.

Nice input with your dad. That's sorta what I wanted to know.

MS Word is pretty basic. Also if you need more extensive knowledge of Word there are many advanced tutorials online.
