  Old  VHS to Computer?

Is there any easy way, or any way at all to get the footage from VHS too my computer? A friend of mine has very recently passed away and I thought it would be nice to put together a little film for him.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

Do you by any chance have a DVD recorder, or do you know someone who does?

If so, it's quite simple. Plug the recorder into the VCR, click record on the recorder, click play on the VCR, and boom, your tape is on DVD. Then, hopefully you have a DVD reader.

I have a capture card, so I could play a VHS and capture it to my computer, thus making a DVD.

Another method I used at school this past semester is that there is a converter that converts RCA to digital input so if your VCR has RCA out then you can just hook it into your PC with USB or fire wire and you're good to go. I remember my teacher saying they were around $40 CAD for one.

So it could be worth it if you have enough VHS tapes you're looking to convert.

If you own a digital video camera, you can feed a VHS player through the camera to your PC via usb/firewire. I usually record it into Windows Media Encoder.

It works like a charm.

Yes, the exact same thing the adapter I was speaking of does. Didn't even pop into my head that he could do it that way too, good one.
