  Old  Ubuntu OS Assistance

Hi,

Just decided to install Ubuntu on one computers I have recently built. The network works and I am able to access files on my other computers from the shared folders, however I am not able to access the Internet.

Last year, when I installed it on another system, it worked fine, but at the time decided to get rid of it and install Windows XP again, I didn't have time to learn it.

Ubuntu has picked up my network card (onboard LAN) and I am able to access files on other computers from it.

But no internet!

Anyone help with this?

Thanks

Well, if you can access other computers on the network then your NIC is good.

What's your network setup? I guess you're behind a router?

Post the results of:

Code:
ifconfig
Code:
route
That might shed some light on it.

Have a look through their documentation here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/

Or post in their community forums here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/

I've found that the community there is awesome at helping on issues like this, plus you'll probably get a much bigger response than in here.

You might have to setup Ubuntu to point to your router as the default gateway - however this may not be the case
