Take the 10 char limit off
What purpose does it serve? People will change their under 10 char posts to the same thing with "[ space ]" after it. I understand its original purpose, but its not working. It would be nice if it would be removed.

I say raise it to 20, and then delete posts and/or give infractions to those who try to bypass it. Or do the some thing, but keep it at 10.

for what purpose, there is nothing wrong with a short reply. Someone posts a good joke you shouldnt have to write an essay on it, you should be able to post "funny".

Maybe only have it for certain forums, like everything except Suggestions/General/Marketplace (for short bids)?
The purpose is to have users post more interesting things than "funny", or the like, so enforcing it more would be better for this forum (I think).

Personally, I'd rather see "funny" than "funny ...[stupid-char-limit]". I cannot say whether the system has worked or not, but noticing dozens (probably hundreds) of posts around which use extra meaningless characters to make up the limit does make things look messy (in my own opinion).
All that said it's hardly a huge issue to get upset over, whichever way the dice rolls.

It's standard with vB I think...so I don't think it was deliberately put in place.

Bad for when you're bidding too, e.g. i would normally just write '$10' but here i'd have to write '$10 dollars'

Re: Cooleo
Does that extra 2-3 seconds really take away from your day?
I'm all for specifying certain forums to have the restriction.

Jeff
