Ubuntu/XP Partition Question

On my new computer, I'm going to be dual booting with Ubuntu and XP, and I was just curious, after I make a partition on Windows on the harddrive, do I run the Ubuntu installer to upzip/setup the files in that new partition? Also, my BIOS will recognize that I have installed Ubuntu so it will give me the option to boot from either one when I boot my machine?

When you are setting up windows, it will ask you how much you want to partition to windows, select what you want partitioned to windows and leave what you want to leave for linux. Then go into a partition program and partition the remaining space when you get to windows. After you make that I believe you must boot up with the CD, I am sure there are too many custom changes you need to make for the files to just unzip them.

Well, I meant unzip/setup as in doing both.. but that's not the point.

I forgot that I'm going to be doing a clean install of Windows, so I'll do that in setup like you suggested. However, what do you mean by doing into a partition program? When I partition it in the setup, shouldn't it be done?

Also, will I be installing ubuntu like windows does (basically like a text-graphical page), or would could I do it through Windows (I'm thinking possibly the first since it is its own OS).

Install windows in one partition. Boot your Ubuntu install disk, format the other partition to ext3. Install ubuntu. Easy as pie. After Ubuntu is installed. it will prompt to install Grub Bootloader.
