Spam Comments

I'm having to moderate around 5 spam comments a day. I'm running a completely stock version of Wordpress. I'm getting tons of emails reminding me to moderate these comments, yet they are all spam. Is there anyway I can stop this, without making it difficult for my readers to comment?

I had this problem before and I got like 20 spam comments a day but after installing Akismet and changing some settings its down to zero.

Yes, Askimet does rule. On one of my WP sites I was getting around 100 spam comments per day -- Askimet reduced that to 0.

Wow Salathe, thats a ton of spam. I guess you could look at it in a good way and see that your site is pretty popular

Update: A spam comment slipped past Askimet today. Could this be the sign of something bad?

I was just thinking of a way of stopping that issue. Thanks, hopefuly it'll work for me.

One question though, have you had people add text to your site url? Its happened to me twice, but not sure what its supposed to do..

None of the automated method can be 100% correct. The best part is that it can help you stopping spam comment to great extent
