Old  What coding language is the easiest to learn?

Hey TFL'ers,

I've taught myself HTML/CSS and Javascript, and was wondering what the best back-end programming language would be to learn next. It'd have to be easy though, since I'm no good at learning stuff (took me ages to learn Javascript, for example).

Thanks,

B.

PHP is easy, so many tutorials and existing scripts (along with compatibility with nearly all hosts) that it's easy to pickup. Alternatively, you could learn a framework opposed to the raw code... up to you. It's like learning jquery versus JS, jquery is easier and quicker, but has more bloat and isn't suited to something simple such as just displaying the current time that a tiny bit of JS could do no problem.

Well, I find it really hard to learn PHP, which is a problem for me. For example, I can grasp theming Wordpress, but I can't write a plugin or function for it.

Where'd you reckon I should start to learn, then?

You need to learn PHP from the ground up, then apply it to WP.

That's what all the PHP devs I've asked have said, but I still don't know where to learn PHP, or Ruby, which is what I really wanted to learn, but PHP is equally awesome

I learned from the book PHP5 in Easy Steps, but http://tizag.com is an excellent resource. Other than that, google is your friend.

Village Genius, you mean Bing is not the supreme search engine? :O

But seriously, that book looks awesome, getting it for Christmas; Tizag is indeed good.

Thanks for the input
