  Old  Cross Browser & Operating System Fonts

Right I have an issue with choosing a good font to display my content in. I currently use this for all <p> tags in CSS;

Code:
"Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans", Verdana, Georgia, Helvetica, Arial
However when I displayed the site to a friend he said the paragraph font looked "deformed". I checked around sites which are based on typography and they also use that font variation. So I'm confused to why it would display incorrectly for my friend.

Does anyone know if it's to do with the font faces or my friends browser settings?
