Old  Take a look at OMG Yahoo - how do they do this?

Hi guys,

Take a look at this site -

http://omg.yahoo.com/

Notice the articles, have some kind of flash xml script over the top of them. Then click it, darkens it then you can view the article.

All done in a blog type of format.

How are they doing that?

Like if I wanted to use a similar concept, how would I get that flash text/title thing working?

If someone knows and can do it, I need it done to a design of mine which is similar to that and obviously will pay $$

I did something similar for a client using JS and CSS. You might be able to do it just using CSS, though I don't think it will work in every browser. Set the images that appear on mouseover via text-indent so they are off screen, then on hover move them into position. Also on hover set opacity on the image using CSS, if the image is on a black background it will seem to dim.

It's not done in Flash. It's done in Javascript, probably using an AJAX library such as the Yahoo UI.

You can however also do it in Flash. If you want to do it in Javascript, you will probably want to use scriptaculous. Here is a simple guideline.

Make an ID for each blog element.
Create a mouseover event in which a semi-dark PNG file is overlayed over the DIV along with a read button (You can do this in numerous ways including id.innerHTML or by using CSS to set certain elements as hidden and visible.
And create a mouseover event that would reverse the effects of the mouseover event.

Due to the similarity between Flash and Javascript, the coding for both would be somewhat the same. However, in my opinion, I would rather use Javascript because loading that many Flash boxes isn't exactly a great idea.

Guaranteed this is using the Yahoo UI Toolkit, which is free!
