Update gfx card.
I recently bought a new pc but i feel the gfx card is letting it down. I've got an nvidia 8600 but i'm looking into the 8800. Is there anything i have to take in account when buying a new gfx card. Or can i just go and buy one and stick it in?

If you're going to get a new one, why don't you do a bigger upgrade? It would probably save money in the long term.

Wow,
They stopped making AGP cards a long time ago lol.
All cards are now PCI-E, so you should be fine getting a new card. I wold recommend holding off to late January when the 9x Series is released

Make sure you have a big enough power supply, the leap between an 8600 to an 8800 is humongous as far as power goes, just compare the sizes of 'em

Make sure you have PCI-E Port outlet on your powersupply as 8800 need them, well unless you get a low quality one. The jump from 8600 to 8800 is a nice one and not that costly because it is very easy to sell 8600 if it is still working good for at least 1/2 the price you bought it. Plus doubling your GFX processor and memory is a benefit for image intensive programs (Games, and Photoshop).
However 8600 -> 8800 isn't a big jump so I would put other parts of the computer on a higher totem pole. RAM, CPU, MB. Make sure you got top quality of those before you make the jump.

just wait till the nine series comes out, I personally don't think that 8600 - 8800 is that big of a jump (or that you really need it)

Save More Money And Buy A Better One, Else You Will Just End Up Having To Upgrade It Again.
