osCommerce hasn't been updated for ages, the tables in the design/skinning it is one big headache. They barely release updates, shame as they were the most widely used platform at one stage. At the end of the day, it really depends what kind of shop you want to start & the options you need. Zencart is better than osCommerce. Magento is amazing - has a lot of options but might be too powerful for the smaller & more simple web shops.

Magento is the best.

Oscommerce was popular a long time ago but contains outdated systems.

For small websites that just want to integrate simple 'buy now' buttons then look into PayPal... just copy/paste code. Easiest to implement for small sites

magento is nice looking but it has a long way to go - it is bulky and hard to manage as of its current development i would hold off on this

i use zencart and really love it but they are getting ready to release a newer version which might change the way it is themed

you can use e-junkie.com or bigcartel.com if you just want something simple to manage a hand full of products

just all depends on how many products you want to manage, & what your design needs are.
