Not a bad idea, however the only issue with that would be loading times. Each image would be around 1-2kb...therefore when the menu is loaded it might take a second or 2 to actually appear.

Very nice, but balancing and adding drop downs in other ones will probably look better.

Maybe so, but there is no need for another dropdown. One thing to learn about design, don't do things for the sake of it, everything must have a purpose.

I think there is a way in css to make the background of the buttons the same as the others then the roll-overs the same as the other roll-over color buttons. Take a look in to this, it'll look great if you can do it! Very pretty so far, tho.
