Old  Is it possible to run ASP under LINUX

To make ASP run under Linux, PHP script files are saved as ASP extensions and are redirected to the PHP interpreter. So it looks like the server serves ASP files, but these are actually PHP scripts.

Therefore Linux runs php and not ASP, your just pretending the php is an asp file.

You can't run .asp on linux. I can explain further if u wish just cant be bothered writing up something u might never actually read.

Incorrect. There's actually an implementation called Chilisoft ASP that runs on Linux, providing a fairly basic ASP environment.

Seems Chilisoft ASP has now been picked up by Sun:

I stand corrected, havn't heard about Chillsoft ASP, i expect running straight of a windows server is still better though?

My knowledge is far outdated (more than six months old) on this, but if I recall, it runs slower than the windows version of it.

If you want to run microsoft languages, you will want IIS which requires a windows server.

Yep, native Windows ASP will always beat the *nix ports in terms of functionality at least.

Chilisoft isn't that great either IMO. Ran it before and quite frankly, now I just refer all windows clients to someone else.

Well it serves a purpose, and that is basic ASP implementations on Linux for those who don't/can't use Windows. For any real ASP applications you should of course stick to native ASP on Windows, as intended.

It's probably easier to just have windows set up, running php and apache and asp.
