Thanks an awesome laptop, well both of them are. Fair prices as well I think

Mine's an older one, in that Aspire Series.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 (E1505 in some places,) and I like it a ton, however, it came with Windows XP Home, and after deciding to update to XP Pro, I noticed a quite impeccable speed difference. I can usually get 2 and a Half hours or so with my screen at 90% Brightness (I like it a Little Dark) and if I turn it down to 10%, I can usually clock in at 3:00.

Despite your past experience with Dell, and dislike of Intel Processors, I think that you will like the 6400 very much.

P.S: My specific model came with 1 GB of RAM, however the 2 GB Option is available.

Price is not really an issue, as long as it's a decent laptop. Let's say $800-$2,500, I think is a decent range for the time being.

I'm also inclined to go for an AMD dual core processor, as opposed to an Intel equivalent. Maybe 2GB of RAM, and bluetooth would be nice so it can speak to my Sony W900i, but that's not crucial as I do have a USB bluetooth adapter.

However, what is crucial is battery life. I know HP sell ultra-battery packs which have a life of 10 hours. 10 hours is a bit overkill, but I think 5 would be an adequate life for what I'll be utilising it for. Although I suppose if I go for an Acer or similar, I could buy another battery pack as they tend to last for roughly 2.5 hours each, for a 6 cell battery pack.

Any help and recommendations will be much appreciated. Also, please keep in mind I live in the UK, and you can't get certain laptops in the UK that you can get in the US.

Sony Vaio is a greay computer but its quite expensive although has a great battery life.

I prefer Dell XPS series, which has about 2 to 2.5 hour life but comes with spare batteries.

I'll have myself another look at the Dell range. As for the Sony laptops, I do love the products that Sony produce. My phone is Sony and I've had other fantastic products from Sony. The trouble there is, Sony parts are hard to come by, I hear, I'm no expert in the field of laptops so I'm speaking only from what I've heard. I guess it all depends on the warranty that comes with Sony laptops. Any idea?

Battery life is fine, you can get 5 hours out of it.

It really depends on what your doing with it, high intensity stuff like gaming will drain it quick.

As for photoshop for example, it would cope with that fine.

The new acer's are coming with improved battery's i believe, so they last even longer

For the spec you get, and the hardware in it, they are great value for money.

Hmmm. You mention the new Acers. When are they due out, any time soon? I'm just wondering if it's worth me holding out for a few weeks.
