Ok 1 other question:

I have a wireless network at home with 4 WINDOWS based machines... 2 desktop's and 2 laptops.

I can either have cabled internet or via the wireless internet.

Are there any difficulties having a MAC also on this network? Would internet access be a problem?

Cheers.

Also any ideas on the battery life?

Wireless is great on a mac. I started my mac up the first time and the wireless started right up no problem you might have to click on the wireless icon at the top and just click the network that it has found.

There is so much disinformation out there regarding computers that it absolutely amazes me.

Macbook vs. Macbook Pro

1. 20G smaller drive (You can Upgrade this on your own)

2. Slightly smaller display

3. Integrated graphics

4. no backlit keyboard

5. DVI adapter not included (whats $20 dollars between friends? )

6. PCExpress slot ( Do they make anything for this slot anymore?)

7. Aluminum shell (I've heard this is a bit of problem with wifi and my house is all wifi, all the time)

8. Ambient light sensor (cool wizbang feature that is not useful to me)

9. Auto-dimming display ( read above )

10. Higher-resolution display

11. Matte display option

The $1299 macbook at Apple.com vs. the $1999 Macbook Pro at Apple.com... boils down to games. The graphics card will not help you unless you are using OpenGL for games or some sort of 3D CAD work. For 3D CAD work you would be much better off with a desktop and 8GB of Ram with Quadro FX card from Nvidia.

Performace wise... 2.0 to 2.16GHZ or 8% is NOTHING you will notice.

In closing, the MBP are super overpriced when you compare what you get with the macbook white 2.0ghz w/ 1gb ram

Google: Photoshop and Ram and Graphics card

All the myths about 2d apps using the graphics card will disappear if you do a little homework.

New upgrades actually fix the RAM problem. I agree, previously, the $1249 (CAD) Macbook barely supplied you with enough ram to run anything else than the iLife that comes with it. Shocking, when you're paying $1249 for the bloody thing!

However, that's all gone now, and we've got the 1gb RAM version for $1249 instead.

Huzzah, Apple!

It really depends on what you're going to do with it ... I have a normal Macbook with 1 gig of ram and an 80 gig hard drive. It's plenty for me, and I would never need more - I do some podcast editing in GarageBand and that's the only time it gets slow at all, and even then it's not too bad. For web browsing etc, it's a beast.

Wireless shouldn't be a problem. I brought my Macbook home and turned it on, and it logged right onto my network without any problems.

From what I've heard, the MBP is for more serious work, advanced video editing, and just overall faster and more stable. I really haven't had any problems with my Macbook though, and that's what I recommend unless you have a need for more power. The Macbook can get up to 2gb of RAM, which I think is enough. They also recently were granted the ability to a 2.16ghz processor if you feel the need.

I don't know about the Pro's battery life, but I haven't been too impressed with my Macbook's if I'm playing music or a movie. I have found that turning the screen brightness way down helps this a bit, but who wants a barely lit screen? The battery is actually several hours long if you don't have many programs open.

Good luck with this, and let me know what you decide!
