However you do know that a forum is about the content and quality of posts and not how many posts you have, right? IMO you should scrap all reference to post counts on this forum, this will create some bickering at first, but eventually it'll lead to content driven posts and not one worded entries.
Have to totally disagree.

When coming to a forum for the first time there are a few ways of telling if it is a worthwhile place.

Number of members - shows how many other people think it is worth the effort.
Number of posts - shows how active the forum is.
Post dates - shows the recency of the activity.

With that information it is a lot easier to decide whether to hang around - of course the forum may still be sh*t with a bunch of muppets posting rubbish, but chances are that it won't be. With none of the above information I personally would assume an inactive forum and probably not bother.

[edit]Ahh my bad I think - you were referring to each members post count right? In that case I'm not so sure so will play devils advocate.

On the one hand I totally agree that without a post count by each members name a lot of members would stop with the pointless posts, made to increase their count.

On the other hand it can be useful to a new member to see how many posts someone has made as it can help to ascertain the relevancy and usefulness of this poster.

On the other hand, errr foot, if said poster has a high post count due to their making numerous pointless posts in order to boost their post count then they could be wrongly assumed to be of knowlege or influence.[/edit]
