  Old  30" Display Wars

Apple:
30-inch (29.7-inch viewable)
2560 x 1600 optimal resolution
16.7 million colors
DVI Display Connector
2 port USB 2.0 Hub
2 FireWire 400 ports
$1,799.00

Dell:
30 inches (30-inch viewable image size)
2560 x 1600 optimal resolution
DVI-D (dual link) with HDCP, white connector
4 USB Ports
9-in-2 media card reader
$1,499.00

So, why pay more for the Apple? And wouldn't it be more cost effective to get 2 24" displays instead?

Look at Apple's computer spec's, then take a look at Dell. Way lower spec's but a lot more?

In my opinion go Dell.

I finally agree with you, just wish Apple was in the win. If Apple's was the same price, id get it over the fact that it's Apple (Call me a fanboy, just like the color and look).

apple is more expensive because of the 'apple' logo on it, if you know what I mean.. I would go for the dell if I had not enough money for the apple..
otherwise I would go for the apple.

rsek, not really. it doesn't have TV feautures in it, if that's what you mean (no arial cable, no scart, no hdmi, not alot at all.

James, if you want something very stylish, vey reliable, and very high quality, go with apple. That's what they're renowned for.

The dell, though, is offering HDCP, and if you're into gaming or motion-picture video (including PS3/Xbox elite) then it's a pretty good choice.

I just wish I had a few grand to spend on a display

Yeah I'm the same way.

You could get a nice 40 + flat screen TV that doubles as a monitor for that price.

Although I have heard rumors that the price drop in there cinema displays is caused by something new coming out from apple. Not really sure what it would be, but my assumption is possibly an Apple TV (like a television), or an even larger monitor.

Don't know, but yeah i'd go with the dell.

I work with both 30" models, and i can safely say that the Dell A04 revisions are the nicer monitors. If you get one of the older 30"s then it's pretty average, and there can be some clarity issues, but the new revisions are fantastic. The apple one's aren't bad, but they dont' justify the price tag.

Like someone already mentioned, i'd go with dual 24"'s if i were you (i have them on my home computer). It's far more effective, and you get way more real estate. It also depends a bit on what you'll be doing with them.
