  Old  iPod or Zune?

I am looking to get an MP3 player. I am between the iPod nano and the 4gb Zune. They are the same price, but the zune has radio. What are your experiences with them?

And please dont start a flame war, I am just looking for peoples opinions.

I've got one of the newer iPod Nanos and love it. Never owned a zune, but I have played with it. Pretty nice piece of hardware too.

The seamless integration with iTunes and the iPods is so easy, everything is just well put together.

I hear your point with the radio, but what from a normal radio station would you hear that you can't put on your mp3 player? Besides commercials, unless you are listening to sports games or something, that's a whole separate issue lol

I used to own an ipod, I now own one of the big 30gb zunes..

Honestly, itunes/ipod and zunemarketplace/zune are the same in the userfriendly area, they both work the exact same way...

Zunes have wifi. something IPods dont..

I also have not played with the new zunes yet, but they have the flick pad (Kind of like how the ipod's used, just you flick up and down like a scrollbar)

I would honestly, consider them pretty equal, just the Zune is longer in height...

I'd go for the zune, just to get out of the ipod hype:P

Zunes I believe don't work on OS X either, another downside

I wouldn't know if a mp3 player having radio is a pro or a con! Personally, I got a mp3 player so I could avoid the crap they put on radio, lol.

On one hand, tbh, the iPod is a tried and true product. Millions served, y'know? Lots of support and lots of accessories. It seems every "add on" product for mp3 players is geared towards the iPod.

In the end, couldn't you go to the store and see it? Maybe it'd be easier to actually hold it in your hand and decide.

@Haris: Zunes do have a wifi connection--but probably not in the sense that you're thinking of (eg: internet.)

Wireless sync. Cut the cord to your PC. Refresh your Zune with new content anytime you charge your device, through your home wireless network. Learn more.

Wireless Zune-to-Zune sharing.[2] Share full-length tracks of your favorite songs, albums, playlists, pictures and even audio podcasts. Listen to the full track of any song you receive up to three times, and even pass along songs you receive to other friends nearby who have a Zune. If you like a song you receive, you can easily add it to your wish list and then buy it from your PC the next time you sync.
I've had a 30GB Video iPod for about 2.5 years now, and the only issues that I've had have been from the firmware upgrades and/or newer versions of iTunes. Of course, being a huge Google fanatic, I can usually resolve that with a 30 minute search party. I'm sure this is a rarity, and not meant to turn you down. Although if you do ever come across a problem, at least you have a peace of mind knowing that you can find help online.

I've played with both of them, although I don't own a Zune. I have no cons against the Zune--I'd buy one if I wanted to and needed to replace my iPod.

Another one you may look into is the SanDisk MP3 players. I know, I know, some people are all about the labels (eg: Apple / Microsoft) but these players are actually really awesome, and not that bad for the price. I recently snagged a 2GB for $30 off of NewEgg. It can hold music, photos, and has an FM receiver and digital voice recorder. Nice quality. I think what sold me (aside from it being cheap and for my mom) was the fact that I could "upgrade" with a micro sd card. So, I found myself a $15 4GB MSD card on Amazon, and I was set.

Honesty, I think you should go ahead and get one that you think will beneft you the most. They're both the same price, so really, I think it would be which one is more functional for you. That what you'll be using to sync for your music. If you already use iTunes, maybe just stick with an iPod

I've had my Zune for about a year now, after my iPod died. Hasn't let me down once.
Do it.

I like radio for talk shows and music I may not have even heard of. Chicago has SO many radio stations covering literally every genre.

I'll take a look into the sandisc one, if that doesnt end up working out I will probably get the zune.

Still open to opinions.

Have you had a look at what Creative has to offer? My brother has a Creative Zen. Holds 16gb (flash based storage, with other capacity players available), has a Radio, Microphone and the Audio Fidelity on it is better than anything else I've heard. You can also store and playback photos and practically ANY video format, the resolution on the screen is fantastic, extremely clear. The player itself weighs practically nothing and is the size of a credit card (more or less).

http://www.creative.com/products/mp3/zen/

It also has a SD HC slot so if you decide you need more space, you can pick up a 4GB SD HC card pretty cheap, with 8GB and 16GB SD HC cards slowly coming on the market as well.

As well as my brother having this, I've also owned a Zen Touch as well as my current MP3, the Zen Vision:M. Not once have I had a problem with either, and I have not been let down in any way by them.

If you enjoy audio fidelity as much as I do, then there's no alternative to Creative players as the company specialises in audio products.
