  Old  Football Fraude!

Well, maybe some of you guys already know it, but here in belgium, some teams/players were busted on fraude!

There is a group of chinese betters, they pay clubs/players to lose a match against another team. Now recently one of those players didn't what the chineses said that he must do, they said they would kidnap their kids and wife or shoot them...

I don't understand why people are doing this. adrenaline?
djeez; now there are some players "banned" to play football for lifetime, but what i don't understand is, why them ban them, what should you do when you could choose between "manipulating a macht" or " your family get shot/kidnaped" when they stand for you with a pistol and asking it to you .

Real shame about the whole thing here, don't understand those chineses!

Your thoughts?

sorry if it's bad english

Tom

Well you did say they were betters so maybe it is greed? I wouldn't say it is adrenaline because you already know the outcome you just have to sit back and get rich no risk at losing anything.

50% chance at picking the winning team vs 100% chance at picking the winning team. Afterall they are in it to make money so why not go after the 100% and rig the game. They could lay down everything on the line if they were 100% sure of the outcome.

What would be interesting to see is two teams go head to head and have different people backing the teams and unknowingly each side is rigged to lose.

yar, it's horrible. i don't really care, as my favourite team, Club Brugge isn't invloved in anything, but still, it's crap.

can't really give a list of players, but it's huge. two or three whole teams involved.

Shame to hear it, i don't follow Belgium football much but i know you have some very good young players in the national side. Hope it doesn't affect any of them.

nah, club rbugge just doesn't do that. it is in no financial problems whatsoever, players get paid well, and it is a club of the people, especially with Jan Ceulemans as the coach. they aren't involved for sure.

Sounds like Euro soccer needs to get it's sh*t together!

That kind of stuff will happen in any sport though. Here in the states The Great One, Wayne Gretzky is involved in a gambling scandal right now. Point shaving accusations happen often enough in college basketball. Pete Rose tarnished his legacy with gambling. The 1919 Black Sox.

But widespread mob intimidation kind of stuff the way you describe it sounds like the government, the police, and the soccer organization (fifa??), needs to step in and get it straightened out.

Brugge fans, you play Roma tonight don't you? Fancy your chances? Totti is out with a damaged ankle but Roma have been on great form lately. Didn't catch the first leg score though, what was it?
