I'm sure this has already been said, but my two cents: it depends on your market. I have some sites where 90% of my users are on Macs, so I can do all the latest stuff and not worry at all about IE 6. I have one site in particular that targets people who are not particularly rich or computer savvy, and that one still has double digit IE 6 users, so I can't ignore them. There are a lot more than just IE6, 7, or whatever. Have a look at your options on browsershots.
The question you have to ask yourself is: can you afford to alienate certain groups of users? If so, great.. build a site with the latest techniques. I think our industry has to move forward even if certain Internet users won't. At one time we were having this conversation about Netscape 4. Eventually the cost outweighs the benefit of supporting them, and its not the end of the world anyway.

I say stop developing for ie6 so that fricken thing can die for good http://www.ripie6.com/ The internet is constantly updating and changing and gets harder to develop new trends for something so out dated that everyone needs to stop caring for it.

This pretty much sums it up. If you don't want to appeal to these people, who likely aren't advanced techies, then don't worry about it. But, if you do want them to see a functional web page, then be sure it works.
It depends on your target audience for this one.

I say that you should focus on latest version of IE. Sooner or later the users will have to upgrade, and just like others mentioned before, users really do need to come to terms with certain trends. One example is that sometimes actively seek out IE browsers and restrict access for every other browsers (happens alot for government sites in Canada), but because the service is necessary, ofcourse you will use it regardless of the browser issue.

Ie 6
IE 6 is not faster than opera or morzila firefox. But I have to use it some time when we get the screen shot. If you need ascreen shot in the form of document file , so IE 6 is better than opera/ firefox.

I agree with iEve, stick with the latest version of the products, it will likely be easier for you, and the best thing to do generally

I don't bother anymore unless I am getting paid a lot of money and everything needs to be perfect.
