Hrm, I can honestly say I've never had that problem. That's odd.

I use DW design-view a lot. Because.. I'm mostly writing norwegian text, and DW automatically converts national characters..

I code in dreamweaver simply because I like a lot of the features it offers such as the built in FTP. It's just simple to click one button to save and upload to your web server.
I think most people don't like it because of it's WYSIWYG features. It generates a lot of bloated code but as long as you write the code yourself in the code view, you shouldn't have any problems.

Indeed. I used dreamweaver for a long time, design view is what you shouldn't use to develop in. We use Aptana at TSM.

Personal preference when it comes down to it. I hate DW but I know there are plenty of good coders that use it (and plenty of bad ones).

I've used DW for years. I usually use the code view to code most stuff and then I'll click on the design view to see if all looks ok before testing it in a browser. I've never had any problems with it inserting anything weird. Now if you want a program that inserts weird stuff try Front page! LOL Or worse...MS Office!

I am a young web designer / developer and I love DW.
I use split view almost all the time and I code checking what's going on in a design view.
I know that dreamweaver supply you with bunch of code that you dont really need sometimes... but if you control it over the code view I think is the best tool. And dreamweaver is letting you to used to syntax of hmtl and css.
when i started to build websites i didnt know a lot about syntax... now after a few months of using DW i can code html and css on my own in code view.
I recommend SPLIT view !!!

i think its ok for someone whos starting off to use dream weaver. it will get you familiar with the tools for the web designer, tools for the coder, and it will get you familiar with them fast. but dream weaver isnt the most professional tool, and true skill comes straight from the finger tips and mind, not by the auto completer by DW. thats why its so frowned upon, but i do encourage you to use it until you become quick at coding, and remember a lot of the syntax.
