I prefer Invision Power Board, mainly because i like the feel of it better, i don't know how to explain it. Most VBulletin boards i go on are boring layouts and not really exciting (except TF, i like this layout)
But i prefer IPB.

Most of these sites are quite long running and modified, you must bare in mind that vbulletin was the definitive board for quite some time and thus most large sites used that, but, I for one beleive that IPB far out weighs vbulletin nowadays.

vB has way more and better features and the skins for it tend to be more beautiful

I'm going to vote vBulletin simply because I prefer the better features. However, most people think vBulletin is a beautiful piece of coding. As a programmer who has a LOT of experience with vBulletin and is concurrently learning business-oriented programming... I'm going to flat out say it...
vBulletin is an awesome program on the front-end, but the back end is very duct-taped together and uses very poor coding practice.
I'll admit the features rock, it's very skinnable (I love template conditionals!), the admin section is amazing, and it's easy to integrate with.
Regards,
Patrick

Not sure what you mean by that technically, vBulletin is fast and efficient I see nothing wrong with it.

I would ahve to say IPB for sure! The newest version is very sweet! My reasons for choosing IPB: Better templating system, very user friendly (admin panel etc... - everything really) & coded better. Basically a better forum software then vBulletin and its cheaper!
