Old  Getting credit for collaborative project

Hello all happy new year!

I'm considering to volunteer on a website project as a designer. The founder has a good idea and an excellent business plan. This is a collaborative project so I won't get paid.

Money isn't an issue. As a beginner I'm looking to build my portfolio and gain experience.

Obviously I don't want to invest time in something that I can't use as credential in the future. How can I ensure that I will be given credit for my contribution after the project is complete?

What can the founder do to give me some assurance?

What type of credit are you looking for? You could sign a contract that makes sure you are listed as a creator on the credits or something.

ps. Collaborative efforts don't mean you don't get paid, they mean you go in together. If he cant take the great idea in front of investors it is probably not a great idea.

By credit I mean given attribution for what I did. We want to create something prior to seeking investors. Either way it's a win for me if we complete it.

What sort of contract are you referring to?

Just write up one that outlines what you have to do and what he has to do. Sign it and thats it, you have a contract; assuming you are both 18 that is.

Perhaps you could draft a "letter of recommendation" for the other party to sign now stating why you were chosen for the project, and other letters as the project unfolds that state specifically what your contributions were. You would have endorsements and your accomplishments chronicled. Good luck to you!
