so in the end you're using a sub directory?
it sounds like you're using something like mod-rewrite in Apache (i've never worked with IIS)

did you tell the vbulletin team that you're using IIS? i'm admin of a forum that uses the same vb version as TF does and the vb support teams support has been pretty thorough
is it possible that you're not familiar enough with the installation environment and maybe that made it seem like their support was bad?

well, in any case, i'm glad you sorted it out.

depends how you look at it basically. I installed it in a sub directory, but iis is set up so that it counts the sub directory as a root. Same effect as putting it in the root, i can now browse to http://www.domain.com instead of having to go into the /forum folder.

yeah that is similar to mod-rewrite in apache by the looks of it.
that's just telling IIS that if the url points to the root directory, use the contents of the subdirectory named DIRECTORY_X
but they are done differently in Apache and IIS. i wonder if vB has instructions for you IIS users
