Definitely the Macbook Pro, I've had mine for about 4 years and still going well. What I've realized is that the only big difference between the Macbook Pro and the iMac is the screen size. They both have very similar Processors, RAM and Graphics Cards.

At the moment a Macbook Pro (15.4") is at £1299 with 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM and a GeForce 9400m graphics card. Leaving you £200 under the budget for maybe an additional screen/tablet/good night out.

Be prepared for lots of people complaining about how you shouldn't buy a mac. At the end of the day it's got nothing to do about who's hardwares the best, just what you feel comfortable using.

If you do buy one and need any help feel free to ask me.

Adam
