Why was I banned yesterday?

I just registered at this site, but yesterday evening I got a message saying I got banned? Why?

Oops, my mistake. I was banning a bunch of spam bots yesterday and you got caught in the crossfire. I noticed the mistake immediately and corrected it, but the message was already on its way to you. It's the first time it has happened, and hopefully the last. My apologies and do continue posting and contributing to our lovely forum.
