Reciprocal linking is where you request a link from another webmaster
and in return you agree to place their link on your website. Traditionally
this was done by emailing site owners. Now you can join services
specifically that make it very easy to exchange links.
One such service is
http://www.linkmetro.com
Another is:
http://www.linkmarket.net When it comes to reciprocal links
people are clearly divided on what to do and what works. Some say only
exchange with those in your own niche. Others say exchange only with
high PR. I say do what you are comfortable with. Personally I exchange
with any site that is quality (i.e. has decent content), I dont worry about
the topic of the site and I dont worry about the PR. Having said this I also
use multiple linking methods so that I am always ready for the future.
And you should too!! If you use the advanced membership of Link Metro
then they also give you their own directory script which means you can
manage your links easier.
As everyone would know by now reciprocal links have been de-valued
when from non-themed or off-topic sites. Even reciprocal links in general
have been devalued. This was because of how vastly they were being
abused as a method to rank well. So if you are going to work with
reciprocal links then you really need to be doing a super targeted
approach.
When we use reciprocal linking now we will only ever do it with sites
specifically in the same niche topic. Always think naturally, and multiple
methods (have I said this enough yet).
One last point with Link Metro, if you have the resources we'd
recommend outsourcing the exchanging of links. You can get it done very
cheaply through
www.rentacoder.com as it can often be a very time
consuming activity (and one that annoyed the hell out of us when we
were first starting).
