If you like Mac OS and have the money go for the Mac. Otherwise build your own PC. It is a great learning experience and you can get some great power for a low price.

I'd just like to mention that you can't upgrade the video cards on iMacs - so that's something to consider when buying an iMac.

The argument that Macs "can't handle" video editing software is ridiculous though. Lots of companies that handle digital video editing run off of Macs. To say so otherwise is absurd.

I didn't say Mac's couldn't, i said iMac's couldn't. The fact that Garrett even mentioned the video card is just further proof about how little he knows regarding the matter. Rendering/laying out/exporting video doesn't even use the graphics card -.-

Come Snow Leopard, os X will be taking advantage of the graphics card more providing more GPU power to other tasks.

That's not actually what i was getting at. I was simply saying that rendering/exporting video, no matter what platform you do it on (PC, Mac, Linux etc.) it doesn't even use the graphcis card. It's a strictly RAM/CPU task only.

I'll probably be getting Snow Leopard as soon as it comes out, if Apple meets its goals then it would be the best OS ever...theoretically 16 tb of ram.

16 tb
I really really hope you mean GB, but seeing at the points you've made earlier, it seems you might actually think 16tb...

BetaOrange, no he was correct.

http://www.apple.com/macosx/snowleopard/

Read the 64bit section

Snow Leopard extends the 64-bit technology in Mac OS X to support breakthrough amounts of RAM — up to a theoretical 16TB, or 500 times more than what is possible today.
