So i'm thinking of upgrading form my laptop to a desktop, and perhaps vista. What i'm wanting to know is atm what are the major flaws in terms of hardware and compatibility with vista at the moment?

I ran Vista on my machine flawlessly. It's a dirt cheap and affordable desktop.

E6320
320GB SATA II
8500GT <-- I ran CNC3 without any problem.
2GB Kingston DDR-II 667

XP is better.

I personally haven't run Vista....but, I have a feeling you'd be happier with XP. Dell, I think it was Dell, stopped offering XP on their desktops but ended up bringing back XP due to popular demand. What does this tell you?

Plus...there's always good old linux ...It's deffinately your cheapest and best option

Yea Vista......
It's alrite but still its full of bugs. You need a reasonable computer to run it but for now i'd stay with XP until SP1 for Vista is released. Also You deffiently don't want Vista for gaming atm. You first need a DX10 video card if you wanna play games in vista and also some games don't work so you also need to install DirectX 9. If you want a decent Vista machine your will need to invest a lot for a system that is futureproofed

Haris - no offence but the 8500 GT sucks, a 7600 GT can beat it easily, it's like the baby of the Gefore 8 series and your much better off getting a 8600 GTS or a 8800 GTS.
