I actually still can't get my ads to show up so that link is rather pointless. I've tweaked it quite a bit as well.

Given this Seb ( http://www.talkfreelance.com/thread39153.html ), I'm afraid I am no longer going to sell links. Blame google, its really dumb, but I'd rather play safe. Seems to me like they are now trying to screw many webmasters source of revenue and drive ever more people to adwords - whatever happend to "Do No Evil"!!!

Wouldn't Talkfreelance make more money by having direct advertisers as opposed to going through a third party service like adwords?
Google isn't going to crack down on Talkfreelance. Isn't Adwords just selling links THROUGH them? I don't see why you can't have links not through them. Confusing times.

Quite likely yes - but adsense is easy to manage and provides better reports and info for advertisers than could be done direct - it also doesn't require me to constantly admin it (ie as time is money it there little difference to me overall)

From my understanding, Google are only trying to improve their algorithm to counter "[b]uying or selling links to manipulate results and deceive search engines. TalkFreelance's text links on the homepage are there as a source of advertising income, right? (Rather than trying to trick Google with keywords.)
Why not use a rel="nofollow" as Google suggests, for your advertising links? Those links won't count as backlinks to the advertising site, so there's no worries about messing with the ranking algorithm. Unless I've misread their advice.
