Yes the requirements given by the last post are enough.Its your choice whether you would want to use VB or C#,there is no difference in performance or any other parameter.if you know VB 6.0 then VB.Net is the natural progression
for you but if you were working in java earlier then C# is the way to go.

For beginers i think there is not better book than step by step series by microsoft press,it adopts a practical and easy approach.even i learned
asp.net,sql server and ms access using the step by step series.
