Gain Members on area specific forum....
Started a new forum based golf in the state of Arkansas. Wondering what the best way is to reach out to new members and build the forum on such a specific area within a specific graphic location.... Any suggestions would be great.
I have signed up all my golf buddies, and I know that there is an audience out there, just need some ideas on reaching them...
Cheers

Hello,
my recommendation is to contact different golf clubs and let them know about your forum. Find a reason why they should join your forum and advertise with that. Contests and/or tournaments are some ideas. You'll have to find your own ideas, I can't help you there.
And I disagree with marknel, in my opinion you won't get a single member by participating in forums with high PR. Try golf forums, that could work, but I don't think you'll get many members.

Unless there's somebody here (probably not) who plays golf and happens to live in Arkansas, then no. Is there any other reason to join your forum? If so, then maybe.
Participating here will help you to find new ideas on how to promote your forum. Otherwise, the links in signatures are nofollow, it won't even help you in search engine rankings.
Which makes me think that I forgot to mention Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I don't think there are many Arkansas golf communities yet. If there really is demand like your saying, then some people should find you through search engines.
Maybe somebody here has a better idea. ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

I guess the "demand" I was claiming is more of an assumption of golf enthusiast that surf the web to better their game. I couldn't really "know" for sure. I still think it is a safe bet to assume I could get a decent following on the forum. Thanks for you help, it is appreciated.

Best way would to be to invite all your friends - and also, post exchanges seem to help bring in more topics when you need it.
Also - are you going to try Facebook or Twitter marketing? You could search "arkansas" on Twitter and see what's being talked about, and then talk to those users = and build relationships = invite them to your forum.

Word of mouth travels faster than light and is the best form of marketing.Try email marketing after getting a list of golfers in the state.

You're very welcome - and also, if you have a lot of lurkers - you need to ask questions to encourage them to post.
