Old  Squatting company holding my domain hostage

A company is holding my domain which is my first and last name hostage and requesting a ridiculous amount of money for it. Is there any legal recourse? I spoke the sole proprietor of the registar they use and he said he could not help me (schmuk) They aren't even using the domain for anything other than displaying advertisements, can I complain to ICANN? The registar only sells to "resellers" which I am guessing are squatters. That should be illegal. I don't know what to do. It is showing up in a google search for my name now

Did you own the domain before? Or did they snatch it up once it expired?

By 'my domain,' does that mean that you registered the domain and can't do anything with it? Or is it just that the domain is your name. If it's the latter, then it's not 'your' domain. Besides, this is typical practice and there's not much you can do about it. Registrars and ICANN could give a rip, so I wouldn't expect any help from them. I'd suggest you just find another domain.

the domain is my first and last name and I owned it for several years, the company snatched it. I did find another domain (immkefreelance.com) but the original one is showing up in a google search for my name

Did it expire when they 'snatched' it? If so, then, technically, it's not yours. If they took it while under your possession, than that's an entirely different matter.

It isn't mine. I say my domain because i had it for a long time and accidentally let it expire. I was hoping that icann would be able to do something about it. Don't people have a legal claim to domains of their name?

Domains aren't considered property. You hire them.

There's nothing you can do about that. Since you let the domain expire, it's no longer 'yours.' To answer your question, no. Not even Madonna could claim that.

I did some research and you guys are somewhat wrong. People can claim a domain name even if they don't own it. I think they have to own a trademark though, or be able to show that the domain was registered in bad faith. I don't think I have a claim though. It is ridiculous because when my domain expired (I waited a year) ANOTHER squatting company scooped it up immediately after. I feel like I will never get it back at this rate
