G5 Mac Pro
Been doing more research on Macs. Is there anything that is bad with the G5 Mac Pro other than I can't run Windows on them? I've read some reviews and with the G7800 graphics card they can get as much as 60 FPS at 1920*1200. IS that a respectable frame rate for such a high resolution?
The reason I ask, is because if I look hard enough I think I can pick one up for around a grand and a half. And they seem to pack plenty of power. Any thoughts?

No such thing as a G5 Mac Pro / G5 PowerMac and Mac Pro yes
Yes you can run windows, hardware in these are fantastic. If you look at www.apple.com/macpro you'll see all the tech specs, just compare these to your current and you'll see a huge increase in capability
I haven't had any problem with power, or seen my bill rise either If it has, it's because of all my other gadgets

powerMac was the desktop line while they were running off powerPC chips (g5 being the latest). MacPro is the intel version. same as powerbook vs macbook.
the powerpc's (g5) can't run windows.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. So other than the fact that they can't run Windows, they are overall a solid desktop?

Well, I just priced out a PC that is 1 or 2 notches from top of the line, and when I threw in a Dell 30" wide screen and taxes, it came to $2500. Can't do that with a Mac... However the Mac would provide much more juice for when I need to multi task and get some work done. However when it comes time to play, the PC that I priced will run circles around it as far as FPS goes. BTW, here is my latest concoction of PC goodness (the $2500 setup): - Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
- ASUS P5N-E SLI
- EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
- PNY XLR8 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit
- Antec 650W PS
- ZALMAN 9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
- Western Digital 80 GB hard drive
- Dell 30" UltraSharp Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
The only thing that isn't really nice about the setup is the hard drive. Many will argue that its tiny. But compared to my current 16GB hard drive, thats plenty of space.
So for $2500, I will have an above average gaming PC, and a decent work station. And when that price includes a whopping 30 inch flat panel (and a good one too), its hard to look past that. I think I just realized that Mac's are a lot about hype, and they don't really suit my needs. Guess I won't be a fan boy; numbers are numbers. The Macs look pretty and operate extremely well under conditions I don't think I'd put it under enough to justify the price tag.
Thoughts?

Dude, if you haven't seen one of them in person, you wouldn't understand. I suggest you go check out the awesome-ness of the mighty 30" monitor. Overkill? Yes. Do I need it? You bet.

Okay first off who hasn't seen one? Second why would you need that much screen space? Third off if you complaining about price as is then why are you going all out. You only go to stuff that you can pay for.
