  Old  Average webpage load time?

I wasn't too sure where this would fit in best so I decided to stick it here

What's the average webpage load time? I know we have to take into consideration dial up users (56k) but does anyone know what the actual figure is?

I doubt there is a figure with so many types of connections, distance from isp's, distance from host server, crappy coding and good coding!, designs that rely heavily on graphics and others that don't, etc.

Way to many variables to find such an average.

yeah i sort of agree with Travis too.

this might be slightly relevant...but data is transferred via packets in web protocols and i believe each packet is like...5kb? (not sure) so if you can keep the page size down to 5kb, your page should load pretty fast...not exactly sticking to this topic but...

i always aim for a max of 14 seconds - this is for dialups so the faster the connection the better - don't always achieve it mind but there you go

According to this site, less than 8 seconds for 56Kbps should be the standard to achieve.

I tend to base mine and my clients page loading times around this sites recommendation. Myself and my clients can't afford to lose potential customers through having slow loading sites.

I'd love to know if there is an actual figure...problem is, is there are so many variables involved as Travis said.
