Old  Whats better Phpbb or Vbulletin?

I am looking into switching to vbulletin from phpbb. I have never used vbulletin before. My question is what forum has more security to stopping spambots, googlebots and such.

I currently have phpbb and i am getting bombarded with bots. Does anyone know if Vbulletin is better at stopping this or is there another forum type that prevents them.

Thanks.

hehe definately go with vb, phpbb is terrible at security. Vb will help stop this so yeah go with it. It will also make our site seem more professional.

Either one is a good pick (Ipb and vB) I believe.

I just think its a personal preference mostly and there are some some coding differences. I'll let the coders discuss that though.

I would NOT go with phpbb.

Don't you want bots to get search engines to pick you up? Those are how you get listed onto search engines.

having used phpBB, smf (briefly), IPB and VB, VB is by a good margin the winner

If I had to choose between phpBB and vBulletin, I'd go with vBulletin. If given my own choice, I'd go to www.simplemachines.org and download SMF instead.

My personal opinion is that VB is the better of the two, however as you see above there are tons of other free options that have the same features and are ten times more secure than PHPBB. I don't know what it is about that program, but they just didn't take the time to review the security. As indicated above by Blue Ire, mybb is spiffy -- used it for a couple months with my gaming clan until we moved on to Vbulletin, and we didn't have any bad experiences with it.
