Old  Good way to market a lyrics site?

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased Sweet Lyrics and was curious on what you guys would do to promote such a site.

Here are the things I'm going to try:
-Submit to directory
-Affiliate with related sites
-have a link to it in my signature
-Promoting it on myspace
-Adding a tell-a-friend form

and dont forget the basic step of a lyrics directory, you need lyrics of each and every atrist and band with each and every song.. Try to get the lyrics on your website first of anybody else...

Good Luck

Thanks, I'll have to try that - so should I watch for new albums / songs and get the lyrics before anyone else publishes them?

Yes , You should, try to put unique keywords for every lyrics page, do hard work on this website and get quality and unique visitors on your website.

Take lyrics.com as inspiration for sweet lyrics!

Yea, I'm aim to do that - I still have to restore the full database, which is 280 MB - the full 200,000 lyrics, and I only have 40 mb of it uploaded lol.
Heh, I was browsing other lyrics sites earlier, and most of them seem to be flooded with popups and such, I wonder why.

WOW , a big database good luck with it and for the popups and ads , they are making money with them and i suggest you not to do that and make it popup free and earn money with it through google ads and selling advertisements on your website.

Good Luck!

I had some great Ideas for a lyrics site and was just about to start coding when I found out that some music company (not any particular publisher or anything) was going after lyrics sites for having copyrighted song lyrics featured on their site. They said this is just starting to be enforced so you can go ahead and start paying to display the lyrics. Of you don't pay they will need you to take down all the lyrics or they will take legal action.

I do not know too much about this but I have seen several lyric sites that were failry big but did not have the cash to cover the fee and had to close down. I read a large article on the subject and will try and find it for you.

One thing a friend suggested is have a Russian host (or any country that the US won't go after for illegal content).

Best of Luck,
Flash-matic

Like Flash-matic said the MPA has launch its first campaign against lyrics sites. The MPA president Lauren Keiser said he wanted site owners to be jailed.

It is a real shame. I custom script + 200,000 lyrics + nice design was bringing alot of people good money. But the MPA I guess it is, are just greedy in their own way.

Hmm, thanks - But I already knew about the consequences.
I don't really care anymore, just leave that out of this thread.
